I'm drowning in black, stranded in darkness. I'm suffocating under the pressure, I don't know how to cope. I am not tempted by the blade, but depression is after me. Clinging to the corners of my mind, creeping into the holes in my heart. I am strong around others, but I cry behind closed doors. I am the light in others' lives, but the light in my life has disappeared. Penning words on paper, scarring white surfaces with black is my only relief, my only escape. I act happy when I'm in public, but I lock myself away at home. My family resents me, says they don't see me anymore. I can't handle this. My mask is cracking, tears slipping thr

I am not one to hold grudges I am slow to anger, but when it happens, it is hidden beneath a calm façade so no one sees. My anger is not dangerous, it is like a summer rainstorm: one moment it is there, heavy and dark, and the next it is gone, replaced with the sun and clear sky. I do not know if this is good or bad, and I don't particularly care. My anger is not drawn-out or vengeful, and hurts no one but myself. Yet sometimes I wonder, does it make me weak if I cannot hold a grudge? or does it make me strong since I can forgive and forget so easily? jo. r.

A girl sits on a park bench, staring into a crystal clear lake. Cherry trees surround her, and the bare branches whisper. The girl cries. She is fighting a losing battle, day after far, month after month, year after year. She can feel her heart darkening, she can feel her inner light fading. What is strength? Is it physical, or mental? Is it needed to be successful? Is it needed to be happy? So many people feel the need to "fix" themselves, or make themselves look prettier, smarter, better. I think they're wrong. No one needs to be fixed. No one needs to change who they are. Strength is accepting yourself and all of your flaws. Strength is accepting OTHERS and all of THEIR flaws. Strong isn't something you are. It's something you choose to be. jo. r.
